The WTSC is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a statewide traffic safety program that is funded by National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, Federal Highway Administration, and the State of Washington. The WTSC staff, in collaboration with a wide variety of federal, state, and local officials, are responsible for carrying out the day-to-day operations of Washington’s traffic safety programs. The WTSC Traffic Safety Programs encompass a wide variety of activities designed to meet Federal Highway Safety Office requirements and to provide a main focus for achieving the goals set forth in the Target Zero Strategic Highway Safety Plan. The Target Zero plan focuses on specific emphasis areas and priorities to lay out systemic safety strategies, which the WTSC turns into projects and viable traffic safety programs to continue to move toward the goal of zero traffic deaths and serious injuries.
