June 6, 2024

TOUTLE, Wash. – Target Zero Manager, Rachelle Nugent, as a representative of the Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Council of Governments (CWCOG) and the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) with representatives from State Farm and Washington State Patrol, awarded the Taking Leaders Higher Club at Toutle Lake High School with a check for $500.00 for incentives they earned through the Teens in the Driver Seat program.

Teens in the Driver Seat is a peer-led program offered through the WTSC to address the risks impacting young drivers such as speeding, distracted driving, and nighttime/drowsy driving. WTSC partners with State Farm to fund incentives to schools.

The Taking Leaders Higher Club at Toutle Lake High School successfully completed units related to impaired driving and distracted driving to earn the incentives. Toutle Lake High School was the second highest earning school in the state for the Teens in the Driver Seat program. As of June 5th, there were 137 schools nationally that had completed projects and earned incentives for Teens in the Driver Seat. Toutle Lake High School was one of the top 27 schools.

Toutle Lake High School is the first in Cowlitz County to begin the program and earn incentives. All high schools in Cowlitz County are invited to participate in the program. Please contact Rachelle Nugent (rnugent@cwcog.org) for more information.
