Washington Traffic Safety Commission’s active transportation safety program focuses on the safety of people who travel on and around our roads outside of motor vehicles. Active transportation users (ATU) or “walkers and rollers,” travel by foot, mobility device, public transit, bicycle and other non-motorized vehicles such as tricycles and unicycles (collectively, pedalcycles).
All of us are active transportation users at one time or another. The ATU program aims to decrease walker and roller fatalities by raising driver awareness and knowledge of active transportation safety laws through strategically crafted and disseminated education about the law related to their safety.
