Ian Rees
Region 17 Target Zero Manager
Bio: Ian works for Walla Walla County Department of Community Health as the Region 17 Target Zero Manager (TZM). His traffic safety work in Region 17 serves Walla Walla, Columbia, Garfield, and Asotin Counties. Ian has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Economic Development from Tulane University. He has experience in project management, community engagement, and data-driven initiatives including consulting work with Washington State Dept. of Transportation’s (WSDOT) Innovative Partnerships Office. He developed strategies for WSDOT’s Public-Private Partnership Initiative and delegated, connected, empowered, and convened diverse stakeholders. He spent a semester of his master’s program traveling across North and South America observing and studying different transportation networks and infrastructure projects. For this work he was nominated for the Tulane34 Award which recognized his scholarly research. He’s led community outreach efforts with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers Soccer Club and has been a soccer coach on the collegiate and professional level.
The Walla Walla County Department of Community Health and Region 17 traffic safety coalition prioritizes traffic safety and coordinates their prevention and education efforts with Washington’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan known as Target Zero. Programs and projects are guided by proven and recommended strategies and the Safe System Approach knowing that traffic crashes are preventable.
