The commission must provide an annual report summarizing findings from the telematics data to the transportation committees of the legislature beginning June 30, 2025.
Cambridge Mobile Telematics Washington State Driver Behavior Analysis Reports
WTSC partners with CMT to conduct statewide and county-level analyses of risky driving behaviors using telematics data. These reports include information about the frequency of driver speeding, cell phone use, and harsh braking and acceleration.
Michelin Mobility Intelligence: South King and Yakima Counties Project
With support from the Governor’s Highway Safety Association, WTSC partnered with MMI to provide interactive maps and conduct focus area analyses using telematics data for the South King and Yakima county communities.
Michelin Mobility Intelligence: Evaluating WSP Target Zero Teams High Visibility Enforcement Emphasis
With support from the Governor’s Highway Safety Association, WTSC partnered with MMI to provide interactive maps for identifying driver high-risk hotspots on state routes in each of the eight WSP districts. Four corridors were selected for Target Zero Teams enforcement emphasis and MMI conducted an evaluation of those efforts using telematics data.

Electric Scooter Related Injury in Seattle Report

This study examined injuries over time associated with e-scooter use in Seattle to inform injury prevention efforts. Electronic health records (EHRs) from UW Medicine from 2018-2023 were used.
A two-page fact sheet summarizing UW-affiliated medical center visits related to bicycle injury.
This study developed a natural language processing (NLP) algorithm to find mentions of helmet use in hospital triage notes, using a subset of bike injury cases from the UW Medicine electronic medical records.

Perceptions of the DRE Program in Washington State

This study aims to understand the perceptions of DREs across Washington State, the ways in which DREs are utilized, and the difficulties they experience in their role.
The current report explores the impact DRE evaluations and officers have on DUI case outcomes from a sample of cases in Spokane, Washington.
This study used multiple methods to answer how criminal justice actors and court systems view the effectiveness of the DRE program and DRE-related evidence.

Citation & Crash Culpability Technical Report

Using linked data from Washington’s Traffic Records Integration Program, a previously validated culpability tool was applied to drivers involved in crashes and the association between criminal traffic citation history and crash culpability was explored.
A two-page supplement of the Citation and Crash Culpability study describing the frequency and type of criminal traffic citations present in the history of drivers involved in collisions.

WA Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) Program Attitude and Behavior Survey Results

A statewide survey of young individuals ages 16-24 was conducted during the spring of 2020. This report summarizes those survey results and highlights significant and relevant findings.
This project exploited Twitter analysis and the technique of big data mining to address current traffic safety culture in Washington State.
The current study explores procedural justice in the context of traffic stops in Washington. Specifically, work for this project was conducted in conjunction with three municipal police agencies within the state.
